  • Are there any long term consequences of having a Kidney Stone?- Dr. Santosh Bethur

Kidney stones if left untreated; it can cause lot of complications. Most common being it can cause infection in the kidneys, they can affect the kidney function in the long run. Especially in the stone patient if it is present for a long time, it can cause cancers. Usually the complications are more in case of a stone in the ureter. Ureter is a small tube between the ureter and the bladder. If the stone is stuck there, the treatment has to be as early as possible. Suppose if the stone is of a smaller size, we can expect stone to pass. If it is of a bigger size, say more than 5 mm, then the chances are less. So these stones can cause complications early. Say if the stone is not treated for 22 weeks and the stone is obstructing the kidney; it can affect the kidney functions and can cause inf...

Secondly, she talks about how we can talk to the abuser know about the abuse and what to do if they tell us it is all in our heads. I think this portion is very important because unlike other relationships, abusive ones, cannot be dealt with in a meaningful and/or conversational manner. They often will not agree with our concerns and try to manipulate us out of feeling we were abused at all. Our other video on Emma's channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NukYg8mS6ic Emma's Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Emsikles She also shares how long she herself has been in therapy and seeking help. The most important message of this portion is that you may have to fight to get the treatment and care that you deserve. Just because you don't get it right away doesn't mean you aren't deserving of it. Lastly, she shares how the abuse affects her relationships now. She talks about how it can be hard to trust anyone, and can even make it hard to believe someone when they say they love you. Also, how she used to be drawn to abusive relationships because of her past, but has been able to overcome that urge and realizes now that she deserves healthy and loving relationships. Derek Curtis Bok (born March 22, 1930) is an American lawyer and educator and the former president of Harvard University. He is the son of Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice Curtis Bok and Margaret Plummer Bok; the grandson of Ladies' Home Journal editor Edward W. Bok and Mary Louise Curtis Bok Zimbalist, founder of the Curtis Institute of Music; the cousin of prominent Maine folklorist Gordon Bok; and the great-grandson of Cyrus H. K. Curtis, founder of the Curtis Publishing Company, publisher of national magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post. Bok was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Following his parents' divorce, he, his mother, brother and sister moved to Miquon, Pennsylvania. He attended The Miquon School, a progressive school that his mother co-founded in 1932, and the UCLA Lab School.[2] He graduated from Stanford University (B.A., 1951), Harvard Law School (J.D., 1954), attended IEP Paris, and George Washington University (A.M., 1958). Bok taught law at Harvard beginning in 1958 and served as dean of the law school there (19681971), in succession to Erwin Griswold on Griswold's becoming Solicitor-General of the United States, and then as the university's 25th president (1971–1991), in succession to Nathan M. Pusey. In the mid-1970s Bok negotiated with Radcliffe College president Matina Horner the "non-merger merger" between Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges that was a major step in the final merger of the two institutions. Bok currently serves as the faculty chair at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard and continues to teach at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Bok's focus on undergraduate education was evident in his initiating the Harvard Assessment Seminar that resulted in Richard J. Light's best-selling book, Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds (Harvard University Press, 2001).[3][4] This focus has continued in Bok's extensive publications since retiring as President of Harvard. Background: In 2014 Medica Zenica and medica mondiale conducted a study with 51 survivors of war rape and sexual violence from Bosnia and Herzegovina who had used Medica Zenica's services during and after the war. This is the summary of the research. Full Title: "We are still alive. We have been harmed but we are brave and strong.” Second revised edition. (November 2014). © Medica Zenica & medica mondiale Video about the main research results and recommendations: The research results show a complex picture of both continuous suffering for most survivors – due to the chronified posttraumatic dynamics and other challenges of mental and physical health, but also a perceived lack of social acknowledgement, lack of protection and ongoing life stressors – and a considerable ability to cope and recreate their lives and their relationships with others, giving rise to a number of relevant recommendations. These recommendations are meant to reflect both the needs of survivors and the greater context of suffering as portrayed in the research results, namely its societal dimensions: Our research clearly revealed transgenerational effects of the survivors’ trauma on their children, as well as the wounds of war rape and sexual violence that remain unhealed and are reinforced and chronified by the tremendous lack of social acknowledgement and protection. Therefore, the recommendations need to be conceptualised in line with the international obligations of the state and entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina that guarantee access to justice and reparation. They should also be firmly placed within the national peace-building and reconciliation agenda. ----------------------------------------------------- Researchers/ Forscherinnen: Sabiha Husić, M.Sc., Irma Šiljak, Emina Osmanović, Ferida Đekić, Lejla Heremić Consultants: Dr. Simone Lindorfer, Dr. Elvira Duraković-Belko, Andreja Dugandžić, Nejra Čengić Video Production/ Videoproduktion: Film by Basti Hansen (www.bastihansen.com) & Gil Nissan (www.gilnissan.com) Link to the research/ Link zur Studie: http://www.medicamondiale.org/fileadmin/redaktion/5_Service/Mediathek/Dokumente/English/Documentations_studies/141128_Research_We-Are-Still-Alive_CR-Medica-Zenica_medica-mondiale.pdf Summary of the research in english: http://www.medicamondiale.org/fileadmin/redaktion/5_Service/Mediathek/Dokumente/English/Documentations_studies/141205_Summary_Research_We-Are-Still-Alive_CR-Medica-Zenica_medica-mondiale.pdf Zusammenfassung der Studie auf deutsch: http://www.medicamondiale.org/fileadmin/redaktion/5_Service/Mediathek/Dokumente/Deutsch/Dokumentationen_Studien/Zusammenfassung_Studie__We-Are-Still-Alive_Bosnien-Herzegowina_CR_Medica-Zenica_medica-mondiale.pdf

Thumb sucking affects children's teeth right? Well, yes it does, but there are long-term consequences that go far beyond straight teeth. A thumb-sucking habit will also affect the muscles of the mouth, causing problems with breathing and swallowing. It can also cause changes in craniofacial development. Say if the stone is not treated for 22 weeks and the stone is obstructing the kidney; it can affect the kidney functions and can cause infections. If these thigs happen, then the treatment has to be an emergency. But the kidney stones in general they are sitting in certain areas of the kidney, it is not emergency to treat those kidney stones, but those stones can come into the ureter anytime, they can grow in size. If that can happen it can cause complications. So the kidney is an organ which is the cells is the kidney does not recycle, what I mean to say is it cannot grow back again, Whatever damage that happens to the kidney, if it happens, it is aa permeant damage. So they kidney stones has to be treated before they affect any kidney function or they can cause any complication like infection. These infections are common in patients with diabetes or old age patients or patients with other conditions like hypertension, diabetes are conditions where patients have to be very careful with kidney stones. So they have to be treated as early as possible.
